The breakfast of cyclist
The breakfast of cyclist is not the best for hoteliers ... We must say that the price of the hostel in Basel is excessively high, therefore they rightly offer a buffet in the morning which is... abundant :)

Today the speed is immediately high, it will be thus from start to finish. In the first section we follow a traveler going to Manchester who has on the handlebars the same guide book we have; he goes fast but just out of the city misses the road, and we with him. Its resources are on the ride but not on the watching guide carefully. He asks to a local but indications keep us on the wrong track. At the end we separate and return back calmly on the Rhine-side.

After Basel the Rhein-Radweg route is a real flat riverside, like that of the Inn downstream from the Alps, often with light dirt road and on embankments. Today it rains several times: the gaiters to protect the shoes, bought a few days ago on the idea of Samuele, prove very useful. I had looked for them in Italy, but as usual accessories which are a bit exotic are unknowns in our part.

I personally like very much these traits that might be called introspective ... you pedal for hours beside the strip of water on one side and fields, woods and ponds on the other, the landscape never changes apart from some ship which moves more or less at your own speed. Occasionally you meet some other bike navigator, the greeting is the only contact with the world. Similar traits are often considered a bit boring, maybe you would appreciate them thinking that here you are in contact with your pure athletic gesture, which allows you to move on the map... surely you are experiencing something different from your usual routine, and besides all this only lasts for a few days.

Record of mileage and we are in Kehl; we look for a a room running for the known problem of the closed-kitchen. We opt for a roof today because it rained a lot and we prefer to stay dry at least. Dinner at an Italian pizzeria a bit broken-down, with the manager who tells his life. He laughs, but seems to all of us like a human case to pity. I omit the details for decency.
