BICYCLE TOUR: EUROTOUR 2008

FLAVIO BASSI'S ON-BOARD DIARY

DAY 22

DATE: 25:08:2008
START: MAINZ
FINISH: REMAGEN
LENGTH: 150 KM
DIFFICULTY GRADE: A1
Intercontinental Expressway.
For some km after Mainz, Rhine Valley is aromatic (industrially). Then, the surprise: with the ferry-boat of Rudhesheim we enter suddenly a different world. A series of enchanting villages, directly from the Middle Ages, all of them with castle on the top of the hill and river port on the bottom. Rhine is a small sea, and hills are pleasant paintings directly to the riverside. This is an interesting area, crowded with tourists travelling with boats between village and village.
Along this romantic paradise of vacations, Rhine Cycle Path seems a real Intercontinental Expressway. Cycling here makes me feel as if I were driving fast between a world and another one... in a long trip with no departure and no arrival, where the aim is the travelling between differrent lands...
In Koblenz, the best Italian Gelateria I ever tasted. Good for entire lunch: in fact, we realize that in long distance cycling a lunch with "Spaghetti Ice Cream" is a perfect lunch, it gives energy and makes you run as soon as you leave the table!
Accomodation in Remagen Camping, well organized, and dinner in Italian pizzeria; long nostalgic conversations with the waiter.
